The Power of the PEMRA
In the counrty of Pakistan on November the 4th 2007, the cilvinians woke up to a unbelevinle reality. The PEMRA or the Pakistan’s Electronic Media Regulating Authority baned the media from creating any reports that ridicule the militay, the president, or his administration. Any editor who defies the order can face a year in jail or a 5 millon ruppe fine($83,000). The president’s excuse for the action were to control a pro-Taliban insugency in the country, yet he seems to target the media. Many lawyers, and pro- democracy agitators have been put under house arrest. Can anyone beleiveĀ how governments keep information they dont want getting out. In my opinion i dont think its was a good choice of action for a country on the rocky road to democracy, its already been diapproved by foreign governments including us the U.S. Whatever his reasons were they still dont justuify the fact he completley ignored the freedom of media. So what do you think? Was it fair?
