We Need You

At this moment people in Darfur are dying. The situation there is horrible. As i have said in previous post there is a whole region out there dying. You may not think of life outside your country, you may not think outside of your state but there are people out there who’s life depends on you. We may just be middle school students but we are doing this project anyway to show that we support people in the region of Darfur, we are showing that are voices need to be heard as we cry out with those who have suffered in Darfur. However no matter how hard we try this project for Darfur awareness cannot succeed without you. We need others to help us speak out. Its our responsibility as the greatest country in the world The U.S. to take global responsibility and help those who cannot defend themselves. We have earned the reputation as a country that defends those who cannot defend themselves yet we sit here and stand by while mass genocide overruns Darfur, and has been for years. Many thousands have died, and even more misplaced. Woman who and girls who are young have been raped. The people there have lost their sense of community.  As a community we all support and help each other to keep the community strong as a global community the responsibility does not change. It is up to us as a world power to help and we ask, no beg of you to help us help those who cannot help themselves.

The Actions of Our Presedent

It seems that our president George Bush has finally spoken some words on the topic of Darfur. It is true that we the U.S our not going to be sending troops to settle the conflict in Darfur as stated in the article, but we will be sending 100 million dollars to the U.N’s peacekeeping force. Now although I believe you cannot tell others to help fight the evil in Africa without showing some backbone yourself you must admit that our country has its own issues. We are still in Iraq, our economy is bad, and we don’t have time to start problems with China. Although it seems that A few hundred marines could help out drastically there are other problems that foreshadow whats happening. Well although i wish something was done i kind of understand what he is saying. So that’s really what the article was about so it seems that we must hope that other countries can help bring hope to the region of Darfur and surrounding countries and ensure that lesson of Rwanda is fresh in every ones minds.

A Moment for Fredrick Douglass

Fredrick Douglass was a Civil Rights leader who rose from slavery in the 19th century. When he was young he found out that his gift of reading ant writing could get him out of slavery. At age 20 he escaped to the north and lived with his beloved wife Anna Murray Douglass in Newbewford Massachusetts. He devoted life to freedom and worked with presidents and other important figures for civil rights. He was also a major voice for woman’s rights movements. He was a slave, presidential advisor, orator, author, social reformer, journalist, publisher, human and woman rights activist, and altogether a great and inspirational man.

Darfur Press Release

The tragedy of Rwanda and the Holocaust was devastating. It was after those terrible genocides that our world powers promised that such a bloody event would not occur again. However in the third world county of Darfur a 21st century genocide has occurred. This terrible genocide has led to the deaths of an estimate of anywhere from 200,000 to 500,000. And this may be a surprise to some people because no one has decided to act. Its is a real terror occurring right now yet the silent screams cannot be heard. The problem started when China made a deal with Darfur for its newly found oil supply. This important deal led to Sudan becoming wealthy. However only the government and the capital city became wealthy which led to the upcoming of rebels and a civil war insuued. However a group of nomadic Arab tribes or bandits known as the Janjaweed have terrorized Darfur. Although they were just horse/camel born fighters who stole cattle in 2003 when rebels spoke out against the Sudanese government they became aggressive. They now attack and kill and rape the civilians of villages where the rebels had power. No longer are they bandits but well equipped fighters supplied and employed by the government to put down rebellion. The Janjaweed are racist towards the dark skinned villagers and are encourage to rape the woman on contact. They are vicious and cruel and enjoy the help of the government who allows the slaughter. They especially use rape to break the woman of the community while using racial slurs. As these events occur world powers debate over what to do. When will are world powers such as the U.N. the U.K. and The U.S. do something? Since China won’t permit countries from sending  troops to Darfur due to the oil they receive. Maybe they won’t but the terror of the Janjaweed is real and happening happening right now. How can we the greatest country in the world stand by although we promised to make sure this never happens again? It takes kids like us to tell the world we have minds, we are mature, and we have opinions and voices that need to be heard about these topics. Perhaps are actions can help Darfur more than any country did. And so that is why we have decided to create a blog day for Darfur on March 6th. On top of writing about Darfur to spread awareness we plan on having as many kids from around the globe post positive well written comments about the situation in Darfur and what we can do to stop it. Perhaps if thousands of kids comment then maybe we can get some attention to help Darfur. Already China started paying attention with the criticism of the upcoming Olympics being held in China. Maybe if the U.S. boycotts the Olympics China will listen and forget about their already large economy and help save the millions in need. So we need your help ok? Save Darfur Press Release.
