The shame of The U.S. Crisis in Darfur

The tragedy of Rwanda and the Holocaust was devastating. It was after those terrible genocides that our world powers promised that such a bloody event would not occur again. However in the third world county of Darfur a 21st century genocide has occurred.  This terrible genocide has led to the deaths of an estimate of anywhere from 200,000 to 500,000. And this may be a surprise to some people because no one has decided to act. Its is a real terror occurring right now yet the silent screams cannot be heard. The problem started when china made a deal with Darfur for its newly found  oil supply. This important deal led to Sudan becoming wealthy. However only the government and the capital city became wealthy which led to the upcoming of rebels and a civil war insuued. However a group of nomadic Arab tribes or bandits known as the Janjaweed have terrorized Darfur. Although they were just horse/camel born fighters who stole cattle in 2003 when rebels spoke out against the Sudanese government they became aggressive.  They now attack and kill and rape the civilians of villages where the rebels had power. No longer are they bandits but well equipped fighters supplied and employed by the government to put down rebellion. The Janjaweed are racist towards the dark skinned villagers and are encourage to rape the woman on contact. They are vicious and cruel and enjoy the help of the government who allows the slaughter. They especially use rape to break the woman of the community while using racial slurs. As these events occur world powers debate over what to do. When will are world powers such as the U.N. the U.K. and The U.S. do something? maybe they wont but the terror of the Janjaweed is real and happening happening right now. How can we the greatest country in the world stand by although we promised to make sure this never happens again? It takes kids like us to tell the world we have minds, we are mature, and we have opinions and voices that need to be heard about these topics. Perhaps are actions can help Darfur more than any country did.
